Despite the many challenges in 2022, the total flexible PU foam production (slabstock and moulded) grew by 1.7% across wider Europe, reaching 1.7 million tonnes. Mainly due to recovering automotive markets there was a decline in production of moulded and polyester foams. #Slabstock foam production grew by 4.4% across the region in 2022 notably thanks to strong demand in bedding and furniture products. Over 95% of slabstock foam is now polyether-based.

For 2023 the tendency is less optimistic. For PU foam production is expected to decrease on an annual basis, largely due to declining demand, rising costs and inflation and overall uncertainty on the economy in Europe.
