Introduction to the main uses of polyether polyols

Polyether polyol is a very important chemical raw material, widely used in industrial production such as printing and dyeing, papermaking, synthetic leather, coatings, textiles, foam plastics and petroleum development. The largest use of polyether polyol is to produce polyurethane (PU) foam, and polyurethane is more widely used in furniture interiors, electronics, construction, shoe materials, home appliances, automobiles and packaging. The decoration industry dominates the entire market demand, followed by the construction industry, while the home appliance market and the high-speed rail industry will become the most important growth poles for future polyurethane demand.

1. Detergent or defoamer

L61, L64, F68 are used to formulate synthetic detergents with low foam and high detergency;

L61, L81 are used as defoamer in papermaking or fermentation industry;

F68 is used as a defoamer in the blood circulation of artificial heart-lung machines to prevent air from entering.

2. Excipients and emulsifiers

Polyethers have low toxicity and are commonly used as pharmaceutical excipients and emulsifiers; they are frequently used in oral, nasal sprays, eye, ear drops and shampoos.

3. Wetting agent

Polyethers are effective wetting agents and can be used in acid baths for dyeing of fabrics, photographic development and electroplating, using F68 in sugar mills, more sugar can be obtained due to increased water permeability.

4. Antistatic agent

Polyethers are useful antistatic agents, and L44 can provide long-lasting electrostatic protection for synthetic fibers.

5. Dispersant

Polyethers are used as dispersants in emulsion coatings. F68 is used as emulsifier in vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization. L62 and L64 can be used as pesticide emulsifiers, coolants and lubricants in metal cutting and grinding. Used as a lubricant during rubber vulcanization.

6. Demulsifier

Polyether can be used as crude oil demulsifier, L64 and F68 can effectively prevent the formation of hard scale in oil pipelines, and can be used for secondary oil recovery.

7. Papermaking auxiliaries

Polyether can be used as a papermaking aid, F68 can effectively improve the quality of coated paper; it is also used as a rinsing aid.

8. Preparation and application

Polyether polyol series products are mainly used for the preparation of rigid polyurethane foam, which are widely used in refrigerators, freezers, refrigerated vehicles, heat insulation panels, pipeline insulation and other fields. Vinyl polymer grafted polyether polyol is commonly known as “polymer polyol” (PolyetherPolyol), abbreviated as POP. Polymer polyol is based on general polyether polyol (generally general soft foam polyether triol, high activity polyether), adding acrylonitrile, styrene, methyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate, chlorine Ethylene and other vinyl monomers and initiators are formed by radical graft polymerization at about 100 degrees and under nitrogen protection. POP is an organically filled polyether polyol used for the preparation of high load bearing or high modulus flexible and semi-rigid polyurethane foam products. Part or all of this organically filled polyether is used instead of general-purpose polyether polyols, which can produce foams with low density and high load-bearing performance, which not only meet the hardness requirements, but also save raw materials. Appearance is generally white or light milky yellow, also known as white polyether.
